This sofa is not just wonderful for kids to snuggle under watching your favorite TV show, it’s quick and fun to make for moms as well. And maybe your big girl will even be helping you with it, as you don’t need much experience to make this blanket. Together you can crochet it up in a jiffy as this super-bulky works up fast. Perhaps something to make in the next school term break?
Like to ‘try it out’ first before embarking on a large project? Make a much smaller crib blanket instead.
Interesting Yarn
What you’ll need is Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn , which is super-bulky and super soft (100% polyester). The cheapest I have seen it advertised is here
for the big skeins (10.5oz/300g ).
Tip: order a few extra skeins of this yarn. It will be used up fast – you’ll see!!! This yarn is perfect for super soft blankets, hats, booties and more for your baby … and house slippers, yoga socks, wash cloths as well as snuggle blankets for you!
How Much Yarn do I need for a Blanket?
With a bit of math, you can work out exactly how many skeins you’ll need. The big skeins hold 256yd/234m of yarn. The gauge of this yarn is 8st x 13r = 4in/10cm on size US11/8mm knitting needles. The Bernat’s recommended crochet hook size is also L11/8mm (But I’d go for 11.5 instead, as usually, you need a crochet hook size that’s 1/2 a size bigger than your knitting needles. )

Can this blanket be made for an Adult ? Beautiful blanket
Thank you very very much!!! from Chile!
Hi Rachel. Yes, you can make this into an adult blanket? Figure out how large you’d actually like this to be. (I think it is already adult size as it is, but you might prefer it larger.) Then, just make yourself a little table: add the size in inches, and then add the number of stitches and rows. You can easily calculate it from the pattern. Let me know how you get on. Have a happy day, ~ Rose
Welcome!

Thank you, Mrs. Lewis
I so appreciate your kind comment, and hope that other readers love the crochet pattern too!
It’s so easy .thank you☺
I made a “very hungry caterpillar” blanket for a 3 year old, based on your pattern. Rows of green (lots of them) then red and yellow together. Brought it to England, which took up half my suitcase, and the look on her face when she saw it was, in a word… Priceless!
Thank you!
I can’t seem to get the ends straight! Confused at the ends of the blanket!
Hi Claudette, what is the issue, exactly?
You’re welcome!
When you started off with the baby blanket how many stitch did you do to start off.
I have emailed you more information. In short, start with a chain of 60, or any other multiple of 6, as you’ll need 6 st to get that stitch pattern. You can make this easy beginners crochet blanket with or without fringe.
