Homemade hummus tastes great like none other and I love making it. However, in our tiny Italian village, it’s impossible find its core ingredient: tahini.
However, a friend of mine found some in a little ethnic shop in downtown Rome and brought me a little jar. ((And I recently discovered that you can buy Tahini (US link) online. ( Tahini
UK/Eur link)))
Of course we had to make some homemade hummus right away. Here is a delicious hummus recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of dried chickpeas
- 1-2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of tahini
- 1 mashed fresh garlic, completely fine
- juice of 1 large lemon
Hummus Recipe
You can create this delicious hummus spread or dip in just 5 easy steps:
Step 1: Prep: rinse and soak the chickpeas overnight in ample water.
Step 2: Cook chickpeas in fresh water for about 45 minutes, depending on the type and how large the chickpeas are.
Step 3: When the chickpeas are properly cooked you can easily mash them into a paste. In the process, add olive oil to soften the paste.
Step 4: Here’s the most important ingredient: tahini, which is made from sesame seeds.
Mix the tahini into the mash.
Step 5: Add all the juice of one lemon. Taste. Add tahini, olive oil or lemon to adjust the taste till it’s splendid.
