December 27, 2012 By Rose Fine Crafts Leave a Comment

Include a review of the best the web has to offer by way of new crochet books in your Boxing Day shopping today. For crochet lovers, here are 10 brand new crochet books to love. The first five will be released in a few months but can be pre-ordered today. The second five are just released books with either beautiful pictures, beautiful patterns or both! All are inspirational and you will, no doubt, improve your crochet skills and output with these in the new year. Have a look!

Great Crochet Pattern Books

To be Released in 2013

1. Blueprint Crochet Sweaters

Do you know designer Robyn Chachula?   Believe it or not but Robyn started her career as structural engineer. For years, she has been applying her unique skill to break down complicated designs into manageable steps. As well, her writings teach us how to make garments fit with small design modifications.

No worries, she makes it easy for us.

Her upcoming book is called Blueprint Crochet Sweaters: Techniques for Custom Construction is not-to-be-missed. Book is due: March 5, 2013. Look forward to well-fitting, and thus FLATTERING handmade fashion.

2. The New Tunisian Crochet

Well, Tunisian crochet is quite hip these days. And if you are not yet familiar with it, consider Dora Ohrenstein’s upcoming new book: The New Tunisian Crochet: Contemporary Designs from Time-Honored Traditions.

Due; February 26, 2013.  If you don’t know  Dora yet, she is quite a leader on the crochet scene. This is 5th crochet book, and all her books are getting 4-5 star ratings.   This book too will be worthwhile.

3. Crochet One-Skein Wonders

Sometimes I just buy one skein of a new yarn to test it and many times I have just one (or two) skeins left over.  Happens to you? Then pre-order Crochet One-Skein Wonders: 101 Projects from Crocheters around the World.

(note: this image is of Edie’s prior book, as the current book does not have a promo picture yet.)

This crochet book is written by well-known author Edie Eckman and veteran crochet editor Judith Durant. Eckman is author of the bestselling books ‘Around the Corner Crochet Motifs’ and ‘Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs’, as well as ‘The Crochet Answer Book’.  Judith is founding editor of Interweave, and editor for other One-Skein Wonders.

Book is due: late March, 2013.

4. Lacework for Adventurous Crocheters

Adventurous Crocheter?   That’s me.  You too? Then read on.

This upcoming fine crochet pattern book by Margaret Hubert has the longest title ever:  Lacework for Adventurous Crocheters: Master Traditional, Irish, Freeform, and Bruges Lace Crochet through Easy Step-by-Step Instructions and Fun Projects !

Order today and awaits its soon arrival as it’s release date is January 1, 2013.

5. The Finer Edge: Crocheted Trims, Motifs & Borders

Also coming out begin Janaury is Kristin Omdahl’s new book: The Finer Edge: Crocheted Trims, Motifs & Borders 7 New Crochet Books to Pre Order for 2013.

My whole house is being decked out with different crochet edges these days (yes, I am exaggerating) but my ‘well’ of different edge designs has been drying out, and they all are starting to look a bit the same.

So, how about that splendid crochet edging third from the left? It looks fabulous enough to buy the whole book for.  This is Kristin’s 6th book on knitting and crochet. She’s a public crochet & knitting expert on TV as well as in print.

Recently Released Crochet Books

Beyond these five upcoming books, let me also highlight a handful of equally educative and inspiring crochet pattern books that were just released in the past few months.

  1. Simple Crocheting.

A very pretty’ coffee table’ book. It’s filled with charted crochet patterns for darling projects for beginning crocheters who right away want to make beautiful projects! Just looking at the book will make you want to go look for your hooks!

Simple Crocheting: A Complete How-to-Crochet Workshop with 20 Projects. Was just released in June 2012.

  2. Connect Motifs

Connect the Shapes Crochet Motifs: Creative Techniques for Joining Motifs of All Shapes; Includes 101 New Motif Designs.

Bored with that one granny square that you know by heart. No problem. This book will get your ‘crochet repertoire’ up to add at least 101 new designs, which, when mixed and matched will allow you to make a dazzling array of totally new design ideas.

  3. More Squares.

Wanna learn a bunch of different Granny Squares? Well, have a look at the mighty… The Granny Square Book: Timeless Techniques and Fresh Ideas for Crocheting Square by Square.

  4. Crochet For Kids

Little Crochet: Modern Designs for Babies and Toddlers.

Really fun projects in this crochet pattern books. The baby shoes with stars are just one of over 24 clever crochet patterns for kids.  What’s nice about this book is that there is a Kindle version of it, so you can take your book along more easily.

  5. Projects w Fancy Crochet Yarn

Crochet Noro: 30 Dazzling Designs (Sixth & Spring Books)   This book is really to show off the fabulous Noro yarn, that is definitely a cut above all other ‘commercial’ yarns out there (aside from other boutique yarn, of course). Beautiful designs and beautiful yarn makes beautiful fashion. Actually, most of the patterns are timeless.

Well, that’s enough to think about/books to be inspired by. Happy Boxing Day Shopping !! Enjoy!
