I did it: made my first super-slouchy hat knitting pattern. With lovely red hearts! And a Pompom. To keep me smiling in the rain. And… to wear at Valentines Day.
Update Jan 26 2017, 3 yrs after first posting this slouchy hat — my very first hat design —, I am re-considering : the way I made the first prototype of this hat is just too slouchy, ’cause it’s knit too loose! Soooo, I’m re-knitting it with smaller needles and a tighter fit. When done, I’ll repost the pattern. If you’re interested, please leave me a comment below, so I can tell you when it’s ready.
Why did I make this happy heart hat knitting pattern?
One thing about the UK: it rains a lot!!! And, as it has been also very windy here, I am swapping my umbrella for hats. I have been borrowing my husband’s beanies, but time has come to have my own hat. A hand-knit hat.
Hearts Slouchy Hat Knitting Pattern
So, I designed a hat that matches my jacket and that features 5 happy hearts. As slouchy hats are all the rage, I thought to try my hand in that. And now I have a hand-knit hat that is super-cute, warm, and practical.
I really designed 2 hats. The first design is shown in the outdoor picture above. I love the look at the front with the rim flipped over. It has a loose drape at the back.
But then I wanted to see how it would look if I would make it a bit more like a beret, so when the hat was all done, I extended the rim with another couple of rows, which allowed the pompom to hang lower and the whole hat to be slouchier and more beret-like.
It’s a crazy hat but I like it as you can wear it in so many ways. You like it too?
The first 5 people who leave me a comment below of what they like about the hat can enjoy a free hat knitting pattern. I will email it to them. For the rest, this slouchy hat knitting pattern will be $4.95 and be available in my knitting patterns shop over the weekend.
Happy Valentines Day, all, from the lady with the crazy knit heart hat.
