You know, some people are cleverer than I am. And Laura Casey is one of them. I mean, which mom would not have loved to make a pretend play over-the-table playhouse that looks as spectacular than this?!
I feel it’s been a shortcoming in my mom-skills by not having made this. But I’ll make up for it with the world, by sharing this free sewing tutorial with you. Follow Laura’s footsteps as she explains them in her tutorial and you’ll have yourself a fantastic playhouse.
Over-the-table Kids Play house Sewing Pattern
‘The key to making this easy is to do all the appliqué on the separate panels FIRST.’ Laura explains. You’ll need 5 panels: 2 for the short sides of your table. These are the sides of the house. 2 for the long sides of your table, which make the front and the back of the house. And you’ll need a sheet for the top to hold the house sides in shape. Measure your table exactly to ensure it fits properly on your table and then hop over to Laura’s blog Sew Differently, for the applique templates and the layout designs and ideas on how to decorate each side of the playhouse.
Even if you make yours different than hers and your own fabric remnants and just generally following Laura’s playhouse sewing pattern, I am sure your playhouse will come out great. Just decide on a strict (and beautiful) color scheme and run with that. Go for high contrast colors. And, if one of your fabric is too light in color, use a sharpie to add more contrast.
Have fun with your new playhouse!
