Sure, I have some ideas...

the challenge with thicker textbook paper is that it will be very thick in the center which will make the flowers harder to fold over and which will also leave greater gaps next to the fold. But, there's nothing that can't be hidden with a little fluffy something in the center, such as a bit of yarn, or some light tissue paper doodles that are tucked in there and attached somehow.

Also see my recent article on paper flowers that offers all kinds of variations on the basic paper flower method that this article here demonstrates.

Personally I would experiment with combining this thicker textbook paper with thinner tissue papers for the center. As well, I would experiment with 'shaping' the rectangles so that there will be less paper to fold in the center.

I like the idea of using text books, so be sure to send in some photos and if appropriate, we'll post them !

Good luck and thank you for the compliment.

I love this idea! I'm creating an altered textbook and am most definitely going to try this with thicker textbook paper. If it doesn't work out I'm not sure what to do, any ideas?
