7 projects. What’s Halloween without a spooky ghost? Must-have decorative Fall season displays have at least one or two ghosts  hanging around, spooky or friendly. Kids consider both kind of ghosts to add to the family fun.

Halloween Ghost Crafts to Entertain:

These are all easy, fun & fast to make.

1. Halloween Ghost Garland

Decorate your home or outside with this cute Ghost Garland that I designed last year. It comes with a template and all you need is some white paper, a black market and some Scotch tape. In other words, anyone can make these anywhere. Great craft to do when your kids have to wait for you in your office for an hour…

2. Haunted House Silhouette with Ghost

Stencil you can use for a-many-splendid things:  from casting a spell, to decorating the fridge, and everything in between.  Just print out the free template and begin your creative adventure.

3. Ghost Luminaries 
Easy recycling project to do with young children, and actually even older kids.  These cute luminaries can light up the path from the gate to your front door.

Love these. So cute. And again, even if you are not a cooking queen, these ghosts appear to be actually doable.  Lots of sugar though, so I won’t be eating them any day soon, but I love to look at them.

Yes, you can use paper napkins too. You can made in a flash and they  look real fun.  Perfect for when you are bored in a restaurant, waiting for the bill….. (use only clean napkins though, although recycled is of course OK).

7. Halloween Ghost house decorating prop.  
This ghost is made with fabric stiffener and needs nothing to support it. Truly spooky and really clever!!

It’s hard to get into Halloween, with the sun beaming here in Italy like it’s mid-summer. But dates don’t lie: Fall is around the corner. At least at night there is a new freshness in the air, that tells me, Fall is indeed not that far away.

Getting Ready for Halloween

Over the last two years, we’ve done lots of Halloween crafts: pumpkin templates, Halloween costume ideas and designs, several Halloween coloring pages, ghost garlands and lots more. (CLICK link to find ‘m).

What I have featured too much of here is kids craft for Halloween. But, as I have been asked, I decided to do some toilet paper roll or other roll craft, and set you all up to make a bunch of adorable witches, which you can fill up with candy. Then, on Halloween eve, hand them out as Trick- or-treats.

Materials

Note for Mom’s, Playgroup & School Teachers:

Crayola class-pack color markers can be purchased open stock. Replenish missing and dried out markers to make your sets complete again for the upcoming year: an economical way to buy markers for an entire classroom.

The cardboard box is also an easy way to store markers, to sort them out after class, and to see which colors are missing. Class packs contain a total of 200 Broad tip markers packed in a sturdy cardboard box.

Craft Instructions

1. First, sign up for your newsletter and confirm you are you. In response, you will receive this template & many other great craft projects by email.

2. Then, print the free online template of our friendly witch.
3. Color the elements on the template as you wish. Be sure to put in some black, white, red, orange, or purple as they are classic Halloween colors. However, you can sure add pink or blue if these are your favorite colors.
4. Cut out the pieces of the template.
5. Glue black or purple tissue paper over the toilet paper roll to make the body.
6. Add glue or sticky tape to the head, arms and feet and paste the pieces onto the body.
7. Use glue or sticky tape to place the broom in the hands of the witch.
8. Tip:Depending on the thickness of the paper used, I’d like to glue the colored pieces first on some thin cardboard for extra strength.

Make-Up That Makes A Masterpiece

The key to making a master face painting and a perfect disguise is in the preparation.

Besides designing the face painting to suit the Halloween costume, the theme character, plus the shape of the face, there are other considerations ~ not in the least is deciding which face painting to buy.  This article is to give you some designs, ideas and great Halloween Face Painting examples.

FACE PAINTING MATERIALS NEEDED

* Skin moisturizer

* Face Paint

* Face Painting Brush

* Face Painting (or cosmetics) small, clean sponge

* Jar of Warm Water

* Cotton Swabs optional

* Face Painting Design (your own designs or those from a great book such as this Klutz book called ‘Face Painting ‘ which comes with a set of non-toxic, water soluble face paint, made by a leading manufacturer of theatre make-up. Great instructions in this book, btw for a range of awesome looking faces. I love the Klutz series of children books: they make everything fun, easy, doable and add a lot of sophistication to an otherwise plainer crafting experience.

(BTW. This Usborne Book of Face Painting (How to Make) is pretty good also. It does not come with paint however, but it’s inexpensive and the face painting design in this book are great.

TIP: if you are painting your Halloween faces during a party, you will need to have a set repertoire of designs that your party guests can choose from. This way, it will be more ‘do-able’ as face painting can be time consuming and you will want to be able to do many of them, particularly during the first part of the party.

Skin Protecting Foundation

First things first: protect your skin.

Do so prior to using heavy make-up and face paint during Halloween. It’s recommended to put a light moisturizer on that will gently keep your skin from drying out beneath the make-up. Or, if you prefer, apply a light coat of Vaseline, to keep the face paints and heavy make-up from ruining their skin.

Apply a base make-up all over your face and neck before using bolder colors and techniques.

Face Painting Materials

With so many different face paint brands to choose from, look for  keywords on the label like: safe, sensitive skin, hypo-allergenic, removable, and approved. This is particularly important for make-up for children and teenagers, who tend to have ultra-sensitive skin. If you wear contact lenses make sure the products you use are user-friendly and safe for contact lens wearers.

Old-Age Effect

There are a few steps to creating a realistic looking ‘old age’-effect:

Step 1: Scrunch-up your face first, to emphasize your “natural” wrinkles. Apply make-up that is lighter than your natural skin-tone. Work on small areas at a time for optimal results.

Step 2: Then, “de-scrunch” and fill in the creases in your skin by using a soft brown eye-liner pencil. Create sunken-cheeks by darkening the cheek hollows. Emphasize the creases around your nose and darken along your jaw line.

Step 3: Create crow’ feet near your eyes (with the pencil).

Step 4: Pucker your lips to create wrinkles around your mouth the same way. Be sure to add liver spots, broken capillaries for the full effect. 

TIP: Use the same techniques on your hands to keep the theme all over.

When you are all done, powder all over with baby powder to set your make-up and give a dry-cracked skin appearance. You can also use baby powder in your hair for a graying effect.

Five O’clock Shadow

Burn a piece of cork and rub on the lower portion on your face in the shape of a beard. Create stubble by using ground coffee or tea stuck onto your skin with eyelash adhesive.

Facial Hair

Cut some fur off of an old stuffed animal and apply over face with eyelash adhesive. Apply a simple, light-weight mustache with a mascara wand.

Ghoulish Skin

For skin that actually peels and falls off, use any type of peel-off facial mask, which can be found in most drug stores.

Clean and Clear

It is kind of common to make the mistake of not properly cleansing your face after make-up removal.  Pay attention to this however, as costume and theatre make-up can wreak havoc on sensitive skin. Always remember to gently remove any make-up, cleanse with a cleanser that is ideal for your skin type and follow up with a mild-astringent to remove any access residue.

With these great tips in place, you’ll have make-up that will make a lasting impression.

Halloween in Fall …. lots of scary things & fear about (In N. America, that is; Here in the Italian country side, we’re mostly celebrating All Saints Day & All Soul’s Day, the days after Halloween; Literally none decorates her house for Halloween, except we do)….

Well, with all this fear & scary things around, all of a sudden I craved to create a message of hope. Something uplifting. Something spiritual. Something white, rather than nero. Something to put in my ‘mom cave’ as BNOTP calls it.

So, rather than making a “Boo”-sign, I thought to make a sign that gives hope that darker times eventually do transform and that a beautiful new passage of life can begins thereafter. And here it is.

How to Make Hopeful Signs

I hoped over to the Graphics Fairy for some pictorial base materials that was romantic, loving and sweet, like these roses and this frame.  Then, I cropped, reduced, rotated & collage-ed the roses onto the frame, added my lettering and moved things about till I liked it and looked like this plague:

However, when I tried to print it, I realized that we’d ran out of ink & it looked scary and ugly!   The roses came out all stripy and yucky and you could not really see the frame well !!! Ahhh…  Something had to be done…

Well, running out of toner just turned out to be the best thing ever.  The real fun began after that!  I used colored pencils, watercolor paint and markers.   I applied my easy peazy ‘how to draw a rose’ – technique (click link for tutorial) to get some new roses.

When I framed my creation,  it looked like this:

Free Digital Download

I am giving away the digital base version of my sign to encourage you to have faith too.   You can print it out B/W, or color. Keep it as is, or do like I did, add some additional creativity to make it ‘your own’. 

My message of hope also makes a great ‘get well’ card or encouragement card for someone who needs it. For a card, I would print it B/W on colored card stock.
