7 projects. What’s Halloween without a spooky ghost? Must-have decorative Fall season displays have at least one or two ghosts  hanging around, spooky or friendly. Kids consider both kind of ghosts to add to the family fun.

Halloween Ghost Crafts to Entertain:

These are all easy, fun & fast to make.

1. Halloween Ghost Garland

Decorate your home or outside with this cute Ghost Garland that I designed last year. It comes with a template and all you need is some white paper, a black market and some Scotch tape. In other words, anyone can make these anywhere. Great craft to do when your kids have to wait for you in your office for an hour…

2. Haunted House Silhouette with Ghost

Stencil you can use for a-many-splendid things:  from casting a spell, to decorating the fridge, and everything in between.  Just print out the free template and begin your creative adventure.

3. Ghost Luminaries 
Easy recycling project to do with young children, and actually even older kids.  These cute luminaries can light up the path from the gate to your front door.

Love these. So cute. And again, even if you are not a cooking queen, these ghosts appear to be actually doable.  Lots of sugar though, so I won’t be eating them any day soon, but I love to look at them.

 6. Halloween Tissue Paper Ghosts

Yes, you can use paper napkins too. You can made in a flash and they  look real fun.  Perfect for when you are bored in a restaurant, waiting for the bill….. (use only clean napkins though, although recycled is of course OK).

7. Halloween Ghost house decorating prop.  
This ghost is made with fabric stiffener and needs nothing to support it. Truly spooky and really clever!!

I came across this husky centerpiece and fell in love with it. It’s so simple, elegant and appropriate.    I bet that the shine through the husk leaves is wonderful. The mix of the luxurious velvet ribbon with the simple husks is just perfect. As such, the ribbon is both a functional and a design element. Anyone with a hurricane in the house (and that makes just about all of us) is eligible for this seasonal make-over!

What a beautiful centerpiece to have for the Thanksgiving holiday table!!!

The picture is just for inspiration. I am planning to make (a version of) this centerpiece for the holidays for our home.  What I like about it is that the husks do not need any tending too, and the whole work of art is good till XMAS, if not beyond.I have no idea if Indian corns are expensive, so I have to look into that.

How-to Step-by-Step Instructions

If you want to make this exact holiday table centerpiece, follow these simple instructions:

1. 1.Measure your hurricane and work out how many corns you’ll need. You can find these at the farmers markets in Fall, at premium craft shops and perhaps even faux-versions of them at your dollar store.  The picture contains 16 bottom-cut corns, and 32 corn leaves.
2. When you have bought the corns,  take off the leaves (but save 32 leaves or a few extra),
3. Cut the corn bottoms flat, stick them on a craft pin or any skewer that allows you to hold them while you them with spray paint, and while they dry.  The pix shows a copper paint, but I think it would look just as nice in silver, white, or even light moss green or a pastel-version of burgundy (what’s that color called?).
4. Hot glue the cobs and add the leaves. Hot glue them all together, all around the glass.
5. Tie the ribbon, and voila.

Let’s plan ahead.  This Thanksgiving I would like to have a number of people over for dinner. As this is a bit daunting to me, I usually like to have all the small details, such as the artsy & crafty decorative elements as well as the main dish to be made well ahead of time.

So, here then are the inspiration for this year’s name cards.  Designer Linda from LindaMade just put these together in a whim. They came out great, and I’d like to use her tutorial as an input for our own set of cards. 

Incidentally, I think it makes total sense to make a set of cards that are non-themed and truly whimsical that would work year round and have them on hand for any kind of (smaller) dinner party. That way spontaneous dinner parties on Sunday can also look glam.

Materials

- Scrapbook paper: in solid colors and in patterns. Tip: 8 x 8” paper is most practical & economical, as each card is a square of 4×4”.
- Ruler
- Scissors with straight & decorative edges

- Pre-cut/self-cut felt flowers, paper flowers, or flower stickers

- Sewing machine
- White Gel Pen or letter stamps and white pigment ink

Color Choice is Key to Seasonality

Tip: to Choose a celebratory Fall Color scheme to make these suitable for a Thanksgiving Dinner party. If you happen to come across this post in July, you can use beach shell motives with pastel blues, greens, ochres and whites instead.

Step-by-Step Project Tutorial

Step 1: Cut 4″ x 4″ squares from patterned scrapbooking papers to the number of table place setting cards you’ll need.

Step 2: Fold each square in half, so that the place cards can stand up.

Step 3: Now, cut an equal number of 3.5″ X 1″ rectangles from  solid craft papers with decorative scissors. These smaller rectangles will be used to write the names on.

Step 4:  For each card, center your solid-colored rectangle over the bottom-half aka the front half of your folded square. Look at the picture.

Step 5: Next comes the fun bit: laying out the flowers. Place them on top of your double-rectangles into a pleasing arrangement. Leave a good piece of the solid rectangle open so that there’s still room for (long) names.

Step 6: Put it all together under your sewing machine needle and stitch around the name rectangle with a long stitch.

TIP: If you’re nervous about the flowers and papers moving while you sew, you may secure them with a glue stick, just make sure the glue dries before you sew so your needle won’t get sticky.
