If you’ve made our ‘bird with umbrella’ pillow, you could make this French bird pillow as a companion.

Techniques:  To make a pillow like this, however, you must first create the whole pillow design with all the various layers in Photoshop and then create transfers.  The ‘bird with umbrella’ tutorial teaches you how to use transfers.

You might like to review our stenciling tutorials on how to use stencils on textiles.  Overlapping mono-printing might give you a rougher, artsy version of this.

Personalized Portrait Pillow

This pillow is perfect as it is with that bowtied bunny portrait.

However, if you have previously made our bird pillows, I’d replace it with a bird portrait to continue your interior design theme.

The other week we visited Florence, and I was completely taken in by the chocolate Easter egg displays.  Besides huge, chocolate filled Easter eggs being popular gifts for the holiday, the Italians also give each other a particular Easter cake.  They actually call it ‘Easter pizza’ but it has nothing in common with a pizza. Packaging is everything and these cakes are just exquisitely wrapped.   A feast for the eye, the heart, the soul and the mouth.

I also want to share with you a few pictures of the candy store itself. As you can tell , it’s an establishment of refinement, located in the old town of Florence. If you click on the image, you can see the larger version. Look at those amazing hand-painted ceilings!!!  Beautiful.

I’m getting ready to create a Easter (egg) wreath, so I did my research. Today I want to share my inspiration with you. In another post I’ll show you what I ended up making myself.

To say that I’m getting a bit wreath-obsessed is an understatement. I have about 11 wreaths in my house already: some finished, some seasonal and some … work in progress. One of these latter WIPs need to transform into a final Easter Wreath. Yes, I’m working on it….

Meanwhile, I thought to show you my Easter Wreath inspiration. As you can tell: no bright spray-painted Easter eggs with glitter, glued in a happy circle, but rather more nature-inspired materials is what I’m craving for my front door wreath, … and elsewhere in my home.

Decorating with Easter eggs is akin to decorating Easter eggs, however, the main benefit of the difference is that you get to eat the eggs. This year, rather than hand-painted eggs, our Easter brunch table will feature simple, real eggs. As we buy our organic eggs straight from the farm, I am happier with this than wasting them in the name of artful decoration.

Easter Preparation

Today, I’ve been doing some ‘Easter tablescaping’- experiments, and placed my eggs in a cozy nest of feathers. I re-purposed an old boa, which was just perfect for this job.

It looked a bit too bland, but then I realized that it’s possible to keep the eggs edible when I’d decorate them with some pastel–colored foam craft stickers.

Easter Table Settings

Then, each table place holder will have a small, pastel-colored dessert cup (we picked these ones up in the South of France) filled with some forest moss, a twig of Spring blossom as a Spring-themed holder for his/her hard-boiled egg.

I like this idea of natural, easy living, with a dash of whimsy.

I’d make these bags a in different sizes, including one to include a mug or two, or a few small plates.

Cute Bunny Egg by Mimetales       As You know I love everything pink or pastel, or white even.. in short: feminine colors, but once and a while, I can look through the eyes of others, as with this little guy. Today, I was challenged to wear pink and yellow as a color combination. My first reaction was that I don’t have any pink/yellow items.  However, I managed to create a great outfit out of cloths I haven’t worn for years.  I love it.

but then again, I’m off sugar completely, so the incentive to go those extra 5 miles

No tutorial is needed. Just copy the card design with the tools and embellishments that you have on hand.  Create your own version of an Easter Bunny Greeting Card.   Variation: make great Easter Brunch table place setting cards or menus with similar design.

4. MIXED MEDIA: DIY Easter Decor : Fun Easter Garland

This is a personal favorite.  Very easy to make, and adds great whimsy to your Easter home decor.    Simply follow a pattern of ribbons, embellished hand cut flower from craft paper, or recycled cardboard, eggs from recycled wrapping paper, and with a glue gun, add them to several strings of raffia.

These last 2 images were in my ‘inspiration’ file. This is a file of ‘I want to make my own versions of these, one day.  Well, I didn’t yet, and now they are nameless. I nonetheless want to share their inspiration with you.

Finished the Easter brunch, done the Easter egg hunt, and now need to calm the kids down after the sugar rush, with something calm and creative?

Be ready and print out these free craft downloads ahead of time.

I made a set of Easter Eggs kids of a variety of ages can color in. They work together like a free little coloring book.

When they are all done with coloring, they can cut out the eggs with scissors. The eggs can be hung on a string like a garland to decorate a door or window, or can be grouped together and made into a simple mobile. It all depends on what materials you have on hand, and how crafty you & they are.

This is also a project that several kids can work on together and makes for nice family entertainment.

For a garland, you’ll need a hole puncher and a ribbon or thread.

For the mobile, you’ll also need a dry-cleaner’s metal wire coat hanger. Cut it into segments of various length, and hang the threaded eggs from the various metal wire mini rods. One thread in the center of the mobile allows you to hang it from the dinner table lamp or ceiling.

Fun and easy craft project that also fast to do. Allows you to integrate the efforts of the whole family as both adults and toddlers can participate in the coloring of the eggs.

Have a look at this chalkboard egg!!!

A few chalkboard Easter eggs would make the most surprising Easter table decoration. They are quirky, unique Easter gifts, that can be personalized, and that can be of use year-round.

Think your regular chicken eggs too small to write messages and make drawings? Then consider ostrich eggs, which usually measure between 13-17 cm. Did you know that ostrich eggs are as strong as ceramics? That’s why Lisa Tilse from The Red Thread makes their chalkboard eggs from real ostrich egg shells, with the egg blown-out, resting on handmade nests, as shown above.

Write sweet messages or do little drawings to share them as gifts, or keep one on your desk to doodle on. The chalk easily washes off so the eggs can be used over and over again. They’re US$35 a piece. Order early, as they have to come from Australia.

To avoid that shipping lead-time and spurred by my thrifty-nature, I am tempted to buy some large wooden eggs, cover these with chalkboard paint, and leave these in a bowl on my coffee table with a few chalks to inspire that creative child in us all.
