I haven’t gone back to school for a ‘000 years. However, every Fall I still enjoy that feeling of a fresh start. Lovely.

One of my best memories is how I used to get very nice new book wrapping paper, calendar and others kids desk accessories and stationary. We would making matching schedulers and organizers, and apply new ideas to our family notice boards. I loved the harmony of all the new colors and designs.

Back to school is this great ‘season’ to get back organized, not only in aspects of school life, but also in other areas.

School bags are one of the most essential school supplies out there. And from personal experience as someone who studied for many years, it is a really good investment to have a couple of different style bags laying around: one for light days, one for heavy book days, one for gym, one for personal items, etc.

Backpacks, School Bags & Lunch Bags

	Fancy Quilted Backpack Pattern, that’s great for ‘stuff’ to take to school. One of my favorite bag designs, but I would not add too many books. There are other bags for that…. see here:
	Reasonable Sturdy Book Bag, Patchwork Pattern Also a favorite bag design, a very relaxed look. Can hold books, but if your intend is to completely fill it with heavy books, day after day, I would double stitch the seams, and double the handle.
	This is the sturdiest tote bag version that can hold quite a few books. Excellent online pattern, free. Again, look where double stitching is useful.
	Shabby Chic Crochet Tote Bag that holds everything. Very sturdy as it requires a double thread.
	Fancy Gym Bag ? Free duffel bag sewing pattern
	Back-to-school Lunch-Bag Pattern (Free sewing pattern)

DIY Bejeweled Bookmark

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Collect materials: string, or strip of leather, or yarn or jewerly wire coverd in fabric,….. ~ or equivalent.. + pretty beads + tools to attach beads.
2. String them together, creating a long beaded jewel for the book bottom end, and a tiny beaded end-jewel to be topping out of the closed book.

Invisible Bookshelves DIY

Eco green, super cool, back-to-school, and simple-to-do, inexpensive kid room decoration.

These invisible bookshelves meets all criteria.

Materials Needed

A book (that you don’t mind never reading again)
A good-sized L-bracket
Couple of flat-head screws
Ruler & pen
Glue
Stack of Books (high enough to cover your bracket)

How to Make Invisible Bookshelves

Mark the middle of your book on the inside of the cover with a ruler and pen.
Then, insert your L-shaped bracket in the book.
Glue it on and strengthen this situation by screwing the bracket into the books as well as adding a few screw into the book. See the picture on the right.
Add a ton of glue to the page facing the cover that has the L-bracket in it.
Close the book and place something heavy on top for a day or so.
Then, hang the book with the bracket upwards on the wall. See picture below.
Stack other books on top, at least as high as your bracket so that your bracket becomes invisible.

Back to School Craft: Lunch Bag

This lunch bag says ‘mom loves me’. That cut-out motif from the printed fabric says it all! Which girl would not want to open and eat the goodies out of this lovely lunch tote? I’m sure you could find with a fabric color & theme, and appliqué that a young boy would love.

This is so easy to make, you could even hand-sew it, if you don’t have a sewing machine.

Materials Needed

What you’ll need is not much.

Just 1/2 yard of solid fabric. (Check out some of these lovely solid Amy Butler Fabrics
1/2 yard of print fabric with motifs you can cut out (Find here some *beautiful* coordinating printed Amy Butler Fabrics)

As well,

1/3 yard of insulated batting (such as this wonderful material called Insul Bright )

1/4 yard of stiff fusible interfacing (such as Fast2Fuse)
3/4" button
Coordinating cotton sewing thread
Coordinating or contrasting decorative thread
Spray adhesive

Back to School Bulletin Board Ideas

It’s that time of the year… Time to get our minds around ‘Back-to-School’.

I came across two really nice Bulletin Board Ideas.

The first one, a crossword puzzle board, is for a classroom, where new kids will meet each other and meet with a new teacher.Isn’t this a fun, fun, fun way to learn each other’s names and get acquainted.

Teacher Tips:

Have a clue for each name.
Use a crossword puzzle maker to make a small puzzle first with your student’s names (when you follow this link, choose ‘criss-cross puzzle’
Print this free printable template on cardstock: Twenty 2” squares

Also, I thought it would also be fun to do for play dates with new kids in the house. Although you might be able to use Alphabet fridge magnets for this activity.

Lay out large squares in the shape of your puzzle. Tape them together and attach to the board. Have a clue sheet with across clues and down clues. Tell something about each person in the clues.

Back-to-School Bulletin Board idea: suitable for grades 4 – 8.

The second back-to-school bulletin board that caught my eye was this really elegant one. Yes, you’ll need one to stay on top of things at home. Remember, there is that ‘Back-to-School’ paperwork that will soon come in that must be dealt with, in the following few days and weeks?! Things need to be organized and you need to be reminded of when and what.

There are many bulletin boards to be found online, however, I like this simple classy version of Country Living, don’t you?

Howto Instructions

And it’s as easy to make as 1,2,3 :

1. Cover old corkboard with pretty fabric

2. Add white painted frame.

3. Hang it up and Pin on your papers.

Optional: If you want a magnetic version, put metal sheet over cork before applying the fabric. Use magnets instead of pins.
